We hear this from parents ALL the time.
Your teenager might understand almost everything their grandparents say.
They might know hundreds of Punjabi words.
They might even speak Punjabi sometimes.
But when someone asks them a question, English comes out first.
We don't need to throw everything away and start from lesson one.
We find out what Punjabi they already have and help them start using it.

We'll build confidence answering in Punjabi and gradually develop longer conversations.
Already speaks Punjabi?
We'll expand their vocabulary, grammar and confidence so they can say more than basic sentences.

No two lessons need to look exactly the same. We choose activities based on what they're learning and how they learn best.
What might a Punjabi lesson look like?

We don't want children to memorise lists of Punjabi words but still struggle to have a conversation.
We teach Punjabi through everyday topics, then use those topics to gradually build vocabulary, grammar and sentence structure.

We don't teach grammar as a list of rules to memorise. We introduce it through the conversations and topics your child is already learning.
How the four skills work together
If you choose our All Four Skills pathway, we don't teach speaking, listening, reading and writing as four completely separate subjects.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my child need to know any Punjabi already?
No. We teach children who are complete beginners as well as children who already understand or speak some Punjabi. Their tutor will start from their current level.
What if my child won't sit still for 60 minutes?
That's completely fine. For younger children, we can offer two 30 minute lessons during the week instead. Lessons also include games, movement and hands on activities, so we don't expect your child to sit still and listen for the whole lesson. For teenagers going through exam period or adults, if a 30 min session works best, then we can accommodate this also.
Do I need to sit with my child during the lesson?
You don't need to sit next to your child for the whole lesson, but for younger children we recommend being nearby in case they need help with technology or activities such as cutting and sticking. As they become more confident, you may find they need you less and less. We also recommend coming back 5 mins before the end of the lesson to get a debrief from the tutor.
What resources do we need at home?
Nothing complicated. We'll provide the learning resources and booklets you need. You'll just need access to a printer, plus a few basics such as scissors, glue, colouring pencils or pens. If anything different is needed for a lesson, your tutor will let you know beforehand.
Can you teach Punjabi alongside Paath or Sikhi?
Absolutely. If you'd like your child to learn Punjabi alongside Paath, Gurmukhi reading or Sikhi, choose our Bespoke Tuition option. We can create a more personalised learning plan around what you'd like your child to learn.
What happens if my child is shy and doesn't speak at first?
That's completely normal. It's one of the reasons we start with a free introduction session. Your child can meet their tutor, say hello, talk about things they like and get comfortable before their lessons begin. We don't pressure children to speak straight away. We build their confidence gradually through games, stories and activities.
Where do the lessons take place?
All lessons take place online using Google Meet, so your child can learn from home wherever you are in the world. Once you're set up with your tutor, we'll send you everything you need to join your lessons.
What happens if we can't make a lesson?
We understand that plans change, especially with little ones. If you can't make a lesson, just let your tutor know as soon as possible. Lessons can be rearranged in line with our cancellation and rescheduling policy.
What happens if my child is ill?
If your child is unwell, please let your tutor know as soon as you can. Depending on the circumstances and notice given, we'll do our best to rearrange the lesson in line with our cancellation and rescheduling policy.
How does payment work?
Lessons are paid for in advance. Once you've had your free introduction session and decided you'd like to continue, we'll confirm your lesson plan, regular time slot and payment details with you.
Who will teach my child?
Your child will be matched with one of our friendly Punjabi tutors based on their needs and availability. Our tutors are based in the UK or Canada and have been personally trained by Harsimrat Kaur. They adapt lessons around each child's confidence, interests and learning style.

Yes. This is very common. We use questions, role plays, translation activities and conversation practice to gradually build their confidence answering in Punjabi.

You can choose Speaking & Listening, Reading & Writing or All Four Skills. If you're unsure, tell us what your child can currently do and what you'd like them to achieve and we'll help you decide.
Can my child just learn speaking without Gurmukhi/reading?
Yes. You can choose our Speaking & Listening pathway without adding reading and writing.
